Colonials will look to build on their torrid start to the year
WASHINGTON - GW cross country laces up their running shoes again on Friday when they head down to Earlysville, Va. for the UVA XC23 Invitational. The men's 8K event will begin at 10:00 a.m., while the women's 5K competition will get underway at 10:50 a.m..
THE INVITATIONAL: UVA will play host to the Colonials and a slew of other cross country competitors in the inaugural XC23 Invitational. Friday's event, which is named in honor of the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships that UVA will host at Panorama Farms, marks the first time since the Cavalier Open in 2011 that GW will compete in an event hosted by UVA.
LAST TIME OUT: The Buff & Blue put together an unforgettable performance at the Paul Short Run, with 10 different runners setting personal records. The Colonial women finished eighth overall and first among A-10 competitors, while the men authored three top-200 finishes en route to a 24th-place team finish.
CRACKING THE RANKING: Due to their strong showing at the Paul Short Run, the Men's Cross Country team earned the 12th spot in the Regional Coaches' Rankings this week. This marks the first time this year that the team has been ranked, and it is their highest ranking since they occupied the 11th position last year.
Meanwhile, the women's team entered this week ranked sixth, once again tying the program's ranking record. This is the second time this season, and fourth time in program history, that the women have been ranked sixth overall.
