Buff and Blue continue homestand vs. Hawks
GW men's soccer plays its first Atlantic 10 home match on Saturday when it welcomes Saint Joseph's to the Mount Vernon Campus for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. Both squads enter the contest, which is a GW Passport event, at 1-1 thus far in conference play.
Please note that the university has revised and updated its visitor policy, adding new requirements for our guests to campus. Visitors need to attest that they are vaccinated, or if they are unvaccinated, attest that they have received a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of their visit to campus, by registering here. Thank you for helping to keep GW safe.
LAST TIME OUT: GW built an early two-goal lead on Tuesday vs. James Madison, but the Dukes rallied with three second-half scores, including the go-ahead tally with 11 seconds left in regulation, to claim a 3-2 win.
Tom Cooklin found the net for the second straight game, while Oscar Haynes Brown netted his team-leading fourth goal of the season by converting his first career penalty kick.
VERN SWEET VERN: GW went 2-0-1 vs. conference opponents on its home field during the spring season on the way to winning the A-10 Central Pod, highlighted by shutout wins over VCU and George Mason.
Over the past five seasons, the Buff and Blue are 11-4-4 in A-10 regular season games at The Vern.
HISTORY WATCH: After recording his 26th career goal on Tuesday, Haynes Brown enters play Saturday needing just one score to crack the program's all-time top 10.
With his next goal, the high-scoring forward will equal Orville Reynolds ('84-87), Kenny Emson ('85-88) and Marcelo Valencia ('91-94) for 10th in program history.
Haynes Brown has totaled 58 points (26 goals, six assists) in 43 career games, including nine points in as many appearances this fall, which puts him seven points away from joining that all-time top 10 list.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS: Saint Joseph's dropped a 2-1 decision to Hofstra on Tuesday night to slip to 3-7 overall. The Hawks have a win vs. George Mason and a loss to UMass on their A-10 resume.
SJU's 13 goals this season have come from nine different scorers, a group led by James Fletcher with three tallies.
GW owns a 20-7-3 advantage in the all-time series, including four straight victories dating back to 2015.
UP NEXT: GW concludes a three-game homestand next Wednesday, welcoming Dayton to The Vern for a 1 p.m. start.
