Hawks scored both goals after halftime
WASHINGTON - In its Atlantic 10 home opener, GW men's soccer was dealt a 2-0 defeat by Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon at the Mount Vernon Campus.
After a scoreless opening half, the Hawks struck twice over the final 45 minutes to secure the conference road victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 46th Minute: Less than a minute after the halftime break, SJU broke the deadlock with James Fletcher working a give-and-go with Omry Perel to set up his team-leading fourth goal of the season. (SJU 1, GW 0)
- 69th Minute: Chris Hunt converted a tremendous bicycle kick to pad the Hawks' lead. An Aidan Watkins free kick found Garrett Lyons' head to set up Hunt's highlight-reel blast with his back to the goal. (SJU 2, GW 0)
NOTEWORTHY
- In the GW net, Justin Grady matched a career high with six saves, including several quality stops to keep the Buff and Blue within striking distance.
- SJU owned a 13-8 edge in total shots and held GW without a shot on goal en route to the clean sheet.
- GW's eight shots came from eight different student-athletes.
UP NEXT: GW closes a three-game homestand on Wednesday, welcoming A-10 foe Dayton to The Vern for a 1 p.m. start.
