Battle Named to A-10 All-Rookie Team

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — First-year forward Jamison Battle of the GW men's basketball team was named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team on Tuesday. He is GW's 23rd All-Rookie Team honoree and the first since Lasan Kromah in 2009-10.
The rookie from Minnesota ranks second on the Colonials and among A-10 rookies in scoring and rebounding at 11.9 points and 5.3 boards per game.
Heading into the A-10 Championship, Battle leads the league in made 3-pointers with 87 and recently surpassed GW Hall of Famer Shawnta Rogers to become the Colonials' new single-season record holder for made 3s in a season. Rogers' previous mark of 86 made 3-pointers during the 1998-99 season stood for over two decades. Battle is also the only Colonial rookie to make at least one 3-pointer in every regular season game.
In conference play, Battle raised his game, averaging 12.6 ppg, and led the team in rebounds (96). He set a season-high with 25 points in the quadruple-overtime win over Davidson on Jan. 29. The marksman shot 34.3% from the outside and knocked down 48 triples against league foes.
Battle was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week twice — Nov. 25 and Jan. 13 — and is the eighth player under Jamion Christian in his eight seasons as a head coach to be named to an All-Rookie Team.
The Colonials will face Fordham in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championship on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
