Colonials to face UNH in quad-meet with West Virginia and Brown
LEADING OFF: After competing in a pair of meets over the weekend, the George Washington gymnastics team heads back out on the road on Saturday to face East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) rival New Hampshire in quad-meet action with Brown and West Virginia. March-outs are slated for 7 p.m. in Lundholm Gymnasium.
LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials competed in two meets over the weekend, first hosting Pittsburgh, West Virginia and William & Mary for their Pink Meet on Friday night before traveling to Kent, Ohio for a dual meet at Kent State. The squad wrapped up their weekend posting a new season-high (195.375), while also notching season-best scores on bars (49.000) and floor (48.975). Nine Colonials also finished the weekend hitting a new season or career-high, while six gymnasts earned a spot on the podium.
195.000 CLUB: GW's season-high 195.375 at its Pink Meet marks the first time the squad has hit the 195.000 threshold in January since 2018. In the last 10 seasons, only five squads have hit the benchmark in the first month of the season.
HELLO HANNAH: Returning from injury, junior Hannah Cohen made her 2020 debut in dominant fashion on Friday evening, earning a career-high 9.900 on beam to finish second on the podium. The Dix Hills, N.Y., native posted a 9.825 at Kent State on Sunday to share the beam title with Olivia Zona. Last season, Cohen earned 10 straight scores of 9.800 or above, and 11 total, on beam to qualify as an individual at NCAA Regionals. She also garnered 2019 ALL-EAGL Second Team honors on beam and was named to the 2019 EAGL All-Tournament First Team.
RAISING THE BAR: The Colonials had their best event on bars at their Pink Meet, securing a season-high 49.000, their first score above the 49.000 threshold this season. Simone Banen paced the squad with a career-high 9.875 to claim second, while Hannah Munnelly followed closely behind with a personal best 9.850 of her own, earning a spot on the podium for the first time in her collegiate career at third. Deja Chambliss and Anna Warhol also hit season-highs with matching 9.800s, while Olivia Raymond posted a 9.675 to contribute to the Colonials' season-high performance.
FUN ON FLOOR: For the second straight meet, the Buff and Blue improved their score on floor with a season-high 48.975. Five of the six gymnasts that competed either matched or set new season-highs. Cydney Crasa paced the squad with a career-high matching 9.875 to share the top spot on the podium. Katya Karpova followed closely behind with a season-high 9.800 of her own, while Rachel Kaplan matched her personal best this season with a 9.775.
