Senior hit pair of home runs and pitched gem
WILMINGTON, N.C. – Faith Weber blasted a pair of solo home runs and tossed a gem on Sunday morning to power GW softball to a 2-1 win over Brown.
Â
Weber's heroics helped the Colonials secure a 2-2 weekend at the Seahawk Softball Classic.
Â
The senior from New Jersey staked herself to an early 1-0 lead with her home run over the left field fence to lead off the second inning. That was still the score in the sixth when she smashed an 0-2 pitch the other way for her second long ball of the game.
Â
With her work in the circle, Weber made that lead stand up. The right-hander held the Bears scoreless into the final inning and then dug in to squash their comeback bid.
Â
Within a run, Brown had runners on second and third when Weber recorded a strikeout to finish the victory.
Â
Weber allowed an unearned run on three hits in her third complete game of the season. She struck out eight Bears to match a career high set Saturday vs. UNCW.
Â
Offensively, it was the first multi-home run game of Weber's career. She finished the weekend hitting .333 with three homers and five RBIs.
Â
Sidney Bloomfield reached twice vs. Brown with a single and a walk, while Jenna Cone smacked a double for her third extra-base hit of the weekend.
Â
ON DECK:Â GW makes its debut on the Mount Vernon Campus next weekend at its annual Colonial Classic. The Buff and Blue will begin the weekend vs. Towson on Friday in a 2 p.m. start before also facing Morgan State, Princeton and Georgetown.
