Graduate student to be part of three-day workshop in April
WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball graduate student Ariel Stephenson has been selected to take part in the 18th annual "So You Want To Be A Coach" program, sponsored by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
The event runs in conjunction with the WBCA Convention at the Final Four in New Orleans from April 2-4.
"I'm very grateful to be able to participate in this program," Stephenson said. "It's so exciting to know that I'll get to learn from some of the best basketball minds in our game. I'm so thankful to have such an amazing opportunity, and I can't wait to get to New Orleans!"
Stephenson was nominated for the program by GW head coach Jennifer Rizzotti, who previously served as President of the WBCA for the last two seasons.
The objective of the program is to increase the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women's basketball, increase the awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduce female basketball players to coaches and administrators and raise awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women's basketball.
Stephenson will learn about the administrative side of coaching, recruiting, how to get hired, the importance of knowing the rules and how to balance work and life.
