The NCAA publicly announced the Graduation Success Rate of all Division I institutions today, with George Washington student-athletes achieving a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 95, seven percent higher than the NCAA Division I average of 88, and up a percentage point after three consecutive years with a mark of 94.
GW's women's cross country and track, golf, gymnastics, men's rowing, women's soccer, softball, men's and women's squash, women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's water polo programs all achieved a perfect 100 score.
"At GW we talk every day about helping people become the best versions of themselves and I am so proud of this achievement by our students," identified Director of Athletics Tanya Vogel. "With the commitment and determination to not only educate our student-athletes but to see them through to graduation, our campus community, coaches and staff prioritize student success. These 13 programs that achieved a perfect GSR are to be applauded for their excellence in the classroom, while our department score of 95 shows that at GW, we are truly trying to change the world one life at a time."
The NCAA developed the Division I Graduation Success Rate in response to college and university presidents who wanted graduation data that more accurately reflected the mobility among all college students today, as the Graduation Success Rate accounts for the academic outcomes of student-athletes who transfer from one institution to another. This GSR data is based on a six-year cohort prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education which includes all scholarship student-athletes across the country who entered college from 2010-2011 through 2013-2014.
The graduation rate is based on a comparison of the number of students who entered college and the number of those who graduated within six years. The GSR provides information for student-athletes who received athletics aid for any period of time during their first year.
