Colonials continue non-conference slate
George Washington men's soccer closes a stretch of four straight road games to open the season with a trip to Liberty on Tuesday night. It's a 6 p.m. kickoff at Osborne Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT: Making a rare appearance on the West Coast, GW (0-2-1) came up short in a 3-0 setback at Portland last Friday.
The Pilots netted a pair of goals in the opening 21 minutes to take control before tacking on a final score in the 85th minute.
First-year keeper Justin Grady recorded a career-high six saves in the contest.
DYNAMITE DEFENSE: Grady made a pair of saves at American last Monday as GW recorded its first shutout of the season in a scoreless draw.
The Colonials have posted at least five clean sheets in four straight seasons. Thor Arne Höfs played a major role in that defensive success, tallying a program-record 22 shutouts over his distinguished career in Buff and Blue from 2015-2018.
In all, GW has totaled 38 shutouts over its seven-plus seasons under head coach Craig Jones with six different keepers recording clean sheets.
SANDRO'S SPARK: Sandro Weber, a graduate student from Germany, earned his first start at Portland and logged a career-high 74 minutes in the midfield. The newcomer leads the squad with five shots on goal through three matches.
SCOUTING LIBERTY: The Flames dropped a 3-0 decision at Pittsburgh on Friday night to fall to 1-2 on the season.
Jordan Barbara and Sebastian Valdez have tallied goals this season for Liberty, which was picked fourth in the Atlantic Sun preseason poll.
COMING UP: The Colonials make their debut on the Mount Vernon Campus on Saturday with a 3 p.m. start vs. Brown. GW's annual Kickin' It at the Vern celebration will feature a cookout with games and free food for the first 200 fans.
WATCH THIS: Hear from Jones and first-year Ryan Cedeno ahead of Tuesday's match.
