Colonials honored for performance in 2-0 week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Max Holdsworth and Justin Grady were honored by the Atlantic 10 on Monday after helping GW men's soccer to a pair of wins last week.
Holdsworth was named Offensive Player of the Week after factoring in all five of GW's goals over the two games, while Grady picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors in recognition of his work in net that yielded back-to-back shutouts.
It's the first time the Colonials have taken both awards since Garrett Heine and Thor Arne Höfs were honored on on Nov. 7, 2016.
Holdsworth tallied seven points for the week via a pair of goals and three assists. The senior from England started his tremendous run by scoring on a penalty kick and adding two helpers in a 3-0 win at Liberty. On Saturday, he converted a fourth-minute penalty kick to stake the Colonials to an early lead vs. Brown and later earned an assist on Sandro Weber's score in a 2-0 victory.
Grady anchored a pair of strong defensive efforts by totaling eight saves. The first-year keeper made five stops in Tuesday's 3-0 win at Liberty and then blocked three shots in Saturday's 2-0 home victory over Brown to lower his season goals against average to .957. He's posted three clean sheets in five outings to begin his collegiate career.
The Colonials look to make it three consecutive wins when they host UMBC on Tuesday in a 3 p.m. kickoff on the Mount Vernon Campus.
