Colonials to host nationally-televised game on Super Bowl Sunday
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - GW women's basketball, in conjunction with the Atlantic 10, announced the Colonials' 16-game conference schedule on Thursday, which opens up on Saturday, Jan. 4.
The highlight of the slate comes on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 2) with the Buff & Blue hosting Saint Louis at 2 p.m. in a nationally-televised game on CBS Sports Network. The appearance is one of two on national TV for the Colonials, the other coming at defending A-10 tournament champion Fordham on Sunday, Jan. 12, also on CBSSN.
GW faces a rigorous opening to conference play with three of its first four games away from home, starting at George Mason (Jan. 4). Trips to Fordham (Jan. 12) and Davidson (Jan. 18) follow the conference home opener against Duquesne (Jan. 8).
The Colonials will have a trio of two-game homestands this season, the first of which comes in late January when Dayton (Jan. 22) and Massachusetts (Jan. 26) visit the Smith Center.
GW will also welcome La Salle (Feb. 12), George Mason (Feb. 15), Rhode Island (Feb. 25) and Richmond (Feb. 29) to Foggy Bottom with the matchup against the Spiders serving as the regular season finale.
The Buff & Blue will visit Saint Joseph's (Jan. 29) to close out January prior to a pair of two-game swings in February to St. Bonaventure (Feb. 6) and VCU (Feb. 9), along with Dayton (Feb. 19) and Duquesne (Feb. 22).
Led by head coach Jennifer Rizzotti, who enters her fourth season with GW, the Colonials feature a revamped roster with seven newcomers - two first-years, two redshirt freshmen, a redshirt junior transfer and two graduate transfers - joining six returners.
The team previously announced its non-conference schedule, featuring an exhibition on Sunday, Oct. 27 against Mercyhurst at 1 p.m. with the home opener set for Sunday, Nov. 10 against Princeton at noon.
Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting getGWtix.com, calling the box office at 202-99-GWTIX, or emailing tickets@gwu.edu. The full schedule is available here.
