Colonials honored for academic performance during spring semester
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - George Washington swimming and diving continued its excellence in the classroom during the spring semester with both its men's and women's squads earning College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America status.
The GW women posted a 3.37 cumulative GPA, while the men earned a mark of 3.29. It's the 15th time in the past 17 semesters that both teams received the accolade.
That academic success backed up a banner season of competition in which the men earned a third straight A-10 title and the women landed runner-up to equal their best-ever finish.
"I'm proud of our team for once again being recognized by the CSCAA," GW head coach Brian Thomas said. "With the rigors of our academic programs at GW combined with the commitment required to be a student-athlete at this level, it's a testament to our team and the academic support system.
Shelby McKay and Danya Ellman work tirelessly to make sure our student-athletes have all the resources that they need in order to be successful in the classroom, and they deserve a great deal of credit."
GW had four student-athletes - Peter Nachtwey, Emils Pone, Miranda Simon and Emily Zhang - earn A-10 All-Academic honors this season. Simon and Nicolas Reeves were recognized with GW's Outstanding Senior Scholar Awards for their achievements in the classroom.
The CSCAA honored a record 480 institutions Tuesday with plans to release its list of individual Scholar All-Americans next week.
