Junior records fourth-fastest time in school history
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior Suzanne Dannheim made history for GW women's outdoor track on Friday night, as the first Colonial in program history to compete in the NCAA East Preliminary Round, doing so in the 3000m Steeplechase.
Dannheim, who established a new school record back in April in a fifth place finish in the event in the A-10 Championship, posted a time of 10:34.00 on Friday, the fourth-best in program history. The mark was good for 14th in her heat and 34th overall.
The appearance on the national stage marked the end of a breakout season for Dannheim, who elevated her game throughout all three seasons. In the fall, the Jacksonville, Fla., native was GW's top finisher in the conference cross country meet, as she finished eighth and moved on to regional competition, where she placed 23rd to earn All-Region honors.
On the track, Dannheim started the indoor season with a win in the 3000m at the Cappy Anderson Invitational in December and also came out on top in the VMI Winter Relays in February.
Dannheim began the outdoor campaign with a win in the 3000m Steeplechase in the Maryland Invitational and also topped the field in the 3000m at the Penn Challenge.
