Alex Zois named 2019 Lindsey Ferris Award recipient
WASHINGTON – The George Washington gymnastics team celebrated its 2019 season by holding its annual end-of-season banquet on Sunday evening.
The Colonials reminisced on their successful 2019 season, in which they returned to the national stage for the fifth consecutive year, and 15th time in program history, to compete at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional. With a lineup that featured eight underclassmen, tied for the most among the 36 qualifying teams, GW went on to top Lindenwood in the First Round to earn a bid to the second day of competition and finish the season ranked No. 32 in the nation.
Fifth-year captain Alex Zois took home the top honor of the evening, the Lindsey Ferris Award. The recognition is annually presented to the gymnast who best exemplifies the team spirit and leadership qualities of the late gymnastics alumna. Zois will be formally recognized at next season's Lindsey Ferris Invitational.
Zois was also honored as the Top Performer on each event and the all-around. She received the Starter Award for Beam and the Most Consistent "Stoicovy" Award for a perfect no-fall season for the second year in a row.
