Softball Clinches Winning Opening Weekend

Colonials knocked off Georgetown on Sunday
The Colonials (3-2) scored the game's first five runs and then put away the Hoyas (1-3) with two more in the fourth and four in the fifth. The Buff and Blue recorded 11 hits in all, with a season-high six of them for extra bases, en route to their first run-rule victory of the season. They finished the weekend with a .331 batting average as a team over five games.
Linquist continued her hot start to the season at the plate in Sunday's finale. The junior from New Jersey knocked in the first run with a sacrifice fly before following with another sac fly in the second, a run-scoring triple in the fourth and a two-run home run in the fifth. She finished the tournament with a .429 average (6-for-14) with the first two home runs of her career, five runs and eight RBIs.
Sierra Lange earned her second win of the weekend in the circle, allowing just two runs on five hits over the five innings to avenge a Friday loss to the Hoyas. The sophomore from Texas closed out the victory with a 1-2-3 fifth inning. She also helped her cause by recording a pair of hits, including an RBI double in the four-run second inning.
Marta Fuentes stoked the Colonials at the top of the lineup once again with two hits and two runs scored, while Morgan Kummer, a first-year from Wisconsin, picked up a double and her first two RBIs in her first career start. Hannah Eslick posted a single and a sac fly in her two at-bats.
ON DECK:Â GW has next weekend off before returning to North Carolina for the Campbell Invitational from Feb. 22-24. The Colonials are set for five games there, facing off against Oakland, Fairfield and the host Camels.
