Men's Basketball Falls at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. — The George Washington men's basketball team dropped its final non-conference outing to Vermont, 76-51, on Tuesday afternoon at Patrick Gym.
Maceo Jack led the Colonials with 12 points on 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Amir Harris played a significant role off the bench with 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Chase Paar added seven points in 11 minutes and continues to develop into a low-post presence.
Vermont's Anthony Lamb finished with a game-high 23 points but only scored three points in the second half. Stef Smith added 19 points, and Robin Duncan was third on the squad with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
In a battle of two of the best defensive teams in the NCAA, Vermont broke through GW's 3-point defensive pressure with nine made 3s.
With the contest tied 22-22 with 9:16 left in the first, Vermont went on a 21-4 run and led 43-26 at the turn.
GW battled hard in the second and cut Vermont's lead to single digits on two occasions, but another 14-0 run by the Catamounts ended any potential comeback.
GW opens Atlantic 10 play in the new year against St. Bonaventure at the Charles E. Smith Center on Jan. 5 at 4 p.m.
