2020 EAGL Preseason Poll
BALTIMORE – The George Washington gymnastics team, coming off its fifth consecutive NCAA Regionals appearance, was picked second in the 2020 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Preseason Poll, the organization announced on Friday afternoon.
Reigning 2019 EAGL champion New Hampshire was picked to finish first in the conference with three first place votes and 32 points, while the Colonials clocked in at No. 2 with 27 points and a pair of first-place votes. NC State also totaled 27 points but earned just one first place vote to take the third spot in the poll.
The Colonials are coming off a successful 2019 season, in which they returned to the national stage for the fifth consecutive year, and 15th time in program history, to compete at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional. With a lineup that featured eight underclassmen, tied for the most among the 36 qualifying teams, GW went on to top Lindenwood in the First Round to earn a bid to the second day of competition and finish the season ranked No. 32 in the nation.
The Colonials return a strong core of 13 letterwinners and welcome a quartet of first-years who will have an immediate impact as GW faces five postseason teams from last year as part of its 2020 competition schedule.
The Colonials open their 2020 campaign on the road with the Little Boston Invitational on Jan. 11. GW will face off with West Chester and Maryland in tri-meet action at 7:30 p.m.
