WCGA Preseason Poll
WASHINGTON – The George Washington gymnastics team has earned the No. 32 position in the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) preseason poll, the organization announced on Tuesday.
GW totaled 317 points to notch the 32nd spot, just four spots behind East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) foe NC State, who clocked in at No. 28 with 497 points. New Hampshire (204 points) also earned a spot on the list at No. 35.
The Colonials are coming off a successful 2019 season, in which they returned to the national stage for the fifth consecutive year, and 15th time in program history, to compete at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional. With a lineup that featured eight underclassmen, tied for the most among the 36 qualifying teams, GW went on to top Lindenwood in the First Round to earn a bid to the second day of competition and finish the season ranked No. 32 in the nation.
The Colonials return a strong core of 13 letterwinners and are highlighted by 2019 All-EAGL First Team selection on beam, Hannah Cohen, who topped the EAGL beam standings all season with her 9.855 RQS. Senior co-captain Cydney Crasa also returns to the lineup after earning All-EAGL Second Team recognition on vault (9.795) and floor (9.830), and is joined by fellow All-EAGL Second Team honorees Anna Warhol (V – 9.775, UB – 9.785) and Simone Banen (UB 9.785). Deja Chambliss is also set to make her return after rupturing her Achilles at the start of the 2019 season. In her Buff and Blue debut, the Chesterfield, Virginia native notched a 9.800 on vault and is expected to play an integral role in 2020.
GW also welcomes a quartet of first-years to the squad, who will have an immediate impact as the Colonials face five postseason teams from last year as part of its 2020 competition schedule.
The Colonials open their 2020 campaign on the road with the Little Boston Invitational on Jan. 11. GW will face off with West Chester and Maryland in tri-meet action at 7:30 p.m.
