Liam Emson, Haukur Hilmarsson and Noah Lubin were honored Thursday
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington's Liam Emson, Haukur Hilmarsson and Noah Lubin landed Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer All-Conference honors on Thursday. Emson was selected to the conference's All-Rookie Team, while Hilmarsson and Lubin were named to the All-Academic Team.
A local product out of Arlington, Va., Emson made an instant impact on the GW offense, finishing tied for second on the squad with six points via two goals and two assists.
Emson saw action in all 17 contests with nine starts in his debut campaign, highlighted by a two-goal effort in a 2-1 Senior Day win over Davidson on Oct. 19. The forward's first score in that game off an incredible bicycle kick strike was recognized by the NCAA as the top highlight in the nation for the week. He paced the Colonials in both total shots (31) and shots on goal (20) for the fall.
It's the third straight season under head coach Craig Jones that the program has produced an All-Rookie pick.
Hilmarsson and Lubin were both lauded by the A-10 for their achievements in the classroom a week after earning CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. Both remain in contention for Academic All-America honors.
A midfielder/forward, Hilmarsson has earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in each of his first two semesters on campus. The Iceland native is set to graduate early with a master's degree in Applied Economics.
In his final collegiate season, Hilmarsson posted four points via a goal and two assists. The score was the game-winner in a 2-0 victory over Saint Joseph's on Oct. 23 in GW's home finale.
Hilmarsson started 29 of the 31 games he played over his two seasons in Buff and Blue, totaling four goals and four assists.
Lubin's commitment to all-around excellence has been well-documented. The senior goalkeeper has thrived amid a full plate of responsibilities on and off the field throughout his time in Buff and Blue.
Lubin was part of the creation of the Neuroscience major at GW, and he's maintained a 3.87 GPA while also devoting time to work as a research assistant and volunteer EMT.
The New York native has also been a leader with GW Dance Marathon, which raises thousands annually for Children's National Hospital. He's a GW SAAC representative, as well.
After waiting for his chance in the GW net, Lubin proved himself plenty capable this fall, registering a 1.14 goals against average in 10 starts to rank sixth in the A-10. He tallied 32 saves in all with a pair of shutouts, both in conference play.
GW is represented on the A-10 All-Academic list for the seventh consecutive season, and it's the fifth time in that span that the Colonials have netted multiple honorees.
