Decorated Colonial gymnast returns as an assistant coach
WASHINGTON – Former George Washington gymnastics standout Chelsea Raineri ('17) has joined the Colonials as an assistant coach, head coach Margie Foster-Cunningham has announced.
A four-year letterwinner for the Colonials from 2014-17, Raineri helped the Colonials to a pair of East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) titles, with her finest individual season in 2017. She became just the third gymnast in program history to reach the NCAA Championship as an individual qualifier when she competed at the national meet on vault. She also made history as GW's first-ever NCAA Regional Champion when she tied for first place on vault with a 9.875 at the NCAA Morgantown Regional.
"I couldn't be more excited to add Chelsea to our staff," said Foster-Cunningham. "Her passion for GW is unmatched. Chelsea will be a great addition."
A Telford, Pennsylvania, native, Raineri earned honors as a First Team All-EAGL pick on both vault and uneven bars and a Second Team nod on floor exercise as a senior, and in total accumulated seven First Team and four Second Team All-EAGL honors during her career, in addition to being named the 2014 EAGL Rookie of the Year.
"Being able to rejoin the GW Gymnastics community as a coach is a dream come true," said Raineri. "I am looking forward to working closely with Margie and Stephanie as we continue to build this incredible program and group of cohesive student-athletes."
Since graduating in May 2017, Raineri has been a coach and choreographer at Silvia's Gymnastics in Zieglersville, Pennslyvania and has worked as a Marketing Events Administrative Assistant for Office Practicum. She graduated with a degree in Business Administration, concentrating in Sport, Event & Hospitality Management.
