Sophomore tallied two goals and one assist during opening weekend
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Washington women's soccer's Alexis Williams has been named A-10 Player of the Week after lifting the Colonials to back-to-back victories to open the 2018 season.
Williams had a standout start to her sophomore season, cementing GW's victory in its season opener over the University of the Pacific with the lone goal of the game. The Branchburg, New Jersey, native put the Colonials on the board just 11 minutes into the second half after finding the ball in a scramble in front of the net and shooting it into the bottom right hand corner to give GW the 1-0 advantage.
The criminal justice major continued her momentum on Sunday at Liberty, giving GW a 1-0 lead at half after taking a cross from Megan McCormick and shooting past the reach of the Flames keeper. With the score deadlocked at one at the conclusion of regulation, Williams again helped lift the Buff and Blue to victory by tallying an assist on Sofia Pavon's game-winning goal.
The midfielder started both contests and leads the team with six shots, all of which have come on goal.
The nod marks the second of Williams' career, having previously earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors last season.
