Complete 2018 Schedule
WASHINGTON - George Washington men's soccer announced its 2018 schedule Monday, featuring four games against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last fall.
The Colonials are slated to play eight of their 17 regular season contests at GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus as they look to earn a second straight Atlantic 10 Championship berth and third in four years.
GW is set to return eight student-athletes that started at least nine games last fall for a squad that finished tied for second in the conference standings. The club adds a promising group of 10 newcomers to the mix, as well."This schedule was designed to challenge us," said head coach Craig Jones, who enters his seventh season leading his alma mater. "The non-conference portion will provide great preparation to get us ready to play in the A-10, which just keeps getting more competitive every year. The goal, as always, is to get to November playing our best and in position to compete for a conference championship."
Following three exhibition tune-ups, GW starts the regular season with three straight games on its home field, beginning with its Aug. 24 opener against Stony Brook at 4 p.m. The Colonials welcome American (Aug. 27) and Lehigh (Sept. 1) to the Mount Vernon Campus before making their first road trip of the season to Brown (Sept. 7) and Providence (Sept. 9).
The non-conference slate continues with a visit to NJIT (Sept. 15) and a home game against Binghamton (Sept. 19) ahead of a Sept. 25 trip to face Duke, which earned the No. 6 seed in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. It's the third straight year the Colonials have tested themselves against an ACC opponent in preparation for conference play.
GW kicks off its eight-game A-10 slate at Davidson on Sept. 29 before renewing its Revolutionary Rivalry with George Mason in Fairfax, Va., on Oct. 3. The Buff and Blue's first home conference contest comes a week later against St. Bonaventure.
The Colonials are then set to host VCU on Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. as part of their annual Alumni Weekend celebration. The closing stretch includes a Senior Day visit from La Salle on Oct. 20 and road tests at Fordham (Oct. 17), UMBC (Oct. 23) and Saint Louis (Oct. 27).
GW wraps the regular season Oct. 31, hosting defending A-10 champion Massachusetts for a 2 p.m. start.
The 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship begins Nov. 3 with the eight-team opening round on campus sites before moving to Saint Louis' Hermann Stadium for the semifinals and finals the following weekend.
