No. 19 Gymnastics Finishes Fifth at NCAA Raleigh Regional

RALEIGH -- In its fourth consecutive appearance in an NCAA regional, and its 14th trip in program history, the No. 19 George Washington gymnastics team finished the day with a 195.425 to take fifth place at the NCAA Raleigh Regional at Reynolds Coliseum.
Senior co-captain Cami Drouin-Allaire posted a 39.275 in the all-around to earn a ticket to the NCAA Championship as an individual qualifier. The nod marks the third time the Shoreham, New York, native, will make the trip to the national stage as an all-around performer by virtue of being one of the top-two all-around performers on the day who was not on an advancing team. She placed eighth overall in the all-around, boosted by scores of 9.825 on vault (T-7th), 9.775 on bars, 9.775 on beam, and 9.850 on floor exercise (T-8th).
GW posted team scores of 49.125 on vault, 48.625 on uneven bars, 48.775 on balance beam, and 48.900 on floor exercise to place fifth in the six-team field.
LSU (197.675) and Nebraska (197.525) finished in first and second place, respectively, to advance to the NCAA Championship. Host NC State finished in third (196.050), followed by Maryland (195.850), GW and Oregon State (194.975).
ROTATION ONE
The Colonials started regionals off on bars, posting a team score of 48.625. Drouin-Allaire led the squad with a 9.775 while fellow senior Liz Pfeiler followed closely behind with a 9.750. The freshmen pair of Hannah Cohen and Anna Warhol also had solid performances during the first rotation and earned matching scores of 9.725. Sophomore Julia McLaughlin rounded out the GW score with a 9.650.
ROTATION TWO
GW then moved to beam and finished with a 48.775. The senior duo of Jillian Winstanley and Pfeiler posted identical 9.800s to pace the Buff and Blue, as Drouin-Allaire finished just behind them with a 9.775. Sara Mermelstein added a 9.750 and Brooke Bray recorded a 9.650 to close out the second rotation.
ROTATION THREE
The Buff and Blue went to floor for their next rotation, where they recorded a team score of 48.900. Drouin-Allaire and Madeline Seibold each earned a 9.850 to top the team while freshman Catherine Karpova and sophomore Cydney Crasa finished with matching 9.775s. Mermelstein added a 9.650 to complete the floor lineup.
ROTATION FOUR
The Colonials closed out their fourth straight NCAA regionals appearance on vault, where they had their best event of the day, posting a 49.125. Winstanley led the way with a team-high 9.900 and Drouin-Allaire followed closely behind with a 9.875. Crasa recorded a 9.825, Pfeiler posted a 9.800, and Mermelstein added a 9.725 to wrap up GW's day of regional competition.
