LAST TIME OUT: After dropping only their second contest of the 2018 season to George Mason, the Colonials (8-2, 1-1 A-10) bounced back in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon, cruising past St. Bonaventure, 14-3, at Marra Athletics Complex. The Buff and Blue was aggressive off the draw and finished the day snagging 12 draw controls, while the Bonnies only had five. GW also led its conference opponent in shots (35-25) and ground balls (29-25).
100 CLUB: Senior co-captain Jocelyn Donohue opened the scoring for the Colonials just 17 seconds into play on Saturday at St. Bonaventure, registering her 100th career point in the process. The Amherst, N.H., native, scored a career-high 39 goals in 2017 and tied for first on the team with 45 points in her junior campaign. This season, Donohue leads the team with 32 points (29g, 3a) and has made multiple tallies in all 10 contests.
GETTING DEFENSIVE: The Buff and Blue defense had one of its best games at St. Bonaventure, holding the Bonnies scoreless in the game's second stanza. Sophomores Posie Paoletta and Caroline Esmond, who have started all 10 contests for the Colonials on the defensive end, helped GW hold its ground as it went on a 7-0 run in the second half to cement the 14-3 decision. In addition to picking up one ground ball and causing two turnovers, Esmond also recorded her first career assist against the Bonnies.
WAWA DOES WORK: Freshman Ioanna Manzouratos matched her season high of five points on Saturday with three goals and two assists. The Germantown, Md., native is second on the team with 11 assists and tied for third on the squad with 25 points on the season. Manzouratos has also started all nine contests in which she has seen action and has tallied multiple goals in four games, including three hat tricks.
SOPHOMORES HITTING THEIR STRIDE: Through 10 games, sophomores Aidan Cage, Caroline Kiernan and Katie Quinn have all surpassed their point totals from their rookie season. In 2017, Cage tallied four points (3g, 1a), Kiernan registered nine points (6g, 3a) and Quinn recorded 13 points (7g, 6a). This season, the sophomore trio has upped those totals significantly. Quinn ranks fourth on the team with 22 points (14g, 11a), Kiernan ranks fifth on the squad with 21 points (12g, 9a) and Cage has nine points (5g, 4a).
ABOUT LA SALLE: The Explorers (4-6, 2-0 A-10) are still looking for their first conference win of the season after falling to Davidson and George Mason last week. Brittany Edwards tops La Salle with 36 points (29g, 7a), while Lynne Frankel leads the squad between the pipes with 87 saves and a 10.07 goals-against average (GAA).
ABOUT RICHMOND: The Spiders (8-2, 2-0 A-10) rolled past VCU (21-11) and Duquesne (19-10) to open their A-10 slate last week. Richmond will travel to Saint Joseph's on Friday before hosting the Colonials on Sunday.
ON DECK: The Colonials will make the trip back down to Richmond on April 13 to face VCU before returning home to welcome 2017 Atlantic 10 Champion Massachusetts to the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus on April 15.
