ORLANDO â€" George Washington junior Logan Lowe was named the Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Year on a vote by league coaches following the conclusion of the conference championship on Sunday, becoming the first player in program history to earn the award.
Lowe completed a stellar junior season for the Colonials in which he won two tournaments in seven regular season stroke play events while adding two more top-10s. He finished the regular season with a stroke average of 70.67 and finished at or below par in 13 of his 21 rounds.
His wins came at the Camden Collegiate Invitational in October, when he shot a final round 68 to overcome a three-shot deficit, and at the Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay in earlier this month. In that tournament, he forced a playoff with a birdie on his 54th and final hole, then captured medalist honors by winning the first playoff hole.
"Logan had a phenomenal year," said head coach Chuck Scheinost. "It was really a special season and he fully deserved player of the year in the conference. Unfortunately, he had to deal with a number of ailments this spring and didn't get to finish it off the way he wanted to at the A-10 Championship, but that doesn't take away from the total body of work he put together."
An All-Atlantic 10 his freshman, sophomore and now junior seasons, Lowe also becomes the first player in program history to be named to the All-Conference team three times. The native of Grass Valley, California, will now await to see if he receives an at-large selection to NCAA Regionals. Golf Channel will air the selection show on Wednesday, May 2 at 5:30 p.m.
