WASHINGTON - The No. 19 George Washington gymnastics team was selected to complete at the upcoming NCAA Raleigh Regional on Saturday, April 7, at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Monday's selection marks the fourth consecutive trip to regionals as a team for the Colonials and the 14th such trip in program history.
The Colonials will compete against No. 2 LSU, No. 11 Nebraska, No. 14 Oregon State, No. 20 NC State, and No. 31 Maryland.
Advancing from regional competition to the national championships will be a total of 12 teams and qualified all-around gymnasts and event specialists. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships. In addition, the event winners at each regional will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or all-around qualifier.
On Saturday, the Colonials finished in third place at the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championships, posting a team score of 195.875. Cami Drouin-Allaire scored a 9.90 to finish the day as the co-champion on vault, the third conference championship title she has won in her career. The senior co-captain was also named EAGL Gymnast and Senior of the Year after winning EAGL Gymnast of the Week a program-record four times in 2018 and scoring the top-all around score in EAGL (39.600), a mark that ranks second in program history. Additionally, head coach Margie Foster-Cunningham won her third straight Coach of the Year Award while Stephanie Stoicovy Worrell and Jason Vonk earned Assistant Coaches of the Year honors.
At last year's NCAA Morgantown Regional, the Colonials posted the highest postseason score in program history with a 195.625 en route to a fifth-place finish.
