Women's Basketball Visits Saint Joseph's on Tuesday

TIPPING OFF: For the second straight road game the George Washington women's basketball team will face a team with an identical conference record when it visits Saint Joseph's on Tuesday night in the penultimate game of the regular season. Tipoff at Hagan Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
STANDINGS CHECK: The Colonials and Hawks share identical overall (14-12) and conference records (9-5) as teams jockey for seeding in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championship. The Tuesday night adversaries sit just behind George Mason (10-4), whom the Colonials have defeated twice this season. GW is just ahead of Saint Louis (8-6) and Richmond (7-7).
Teams seeded third through eighth will host an Atlantic 10 Championship Quarterfinal on Tuesday, February 27.
LAST TIME OUT: GW used a big second quarter run to open a lead it never relinquished in a 71-58 win over Saint Louis on Saturday at Chaifetz Arena. Freshman Neila Luma led the way with a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double while Brianna Cummings (17 points), Mei-Lyn Bautista (15 points) and Kelli Prange (12 points) all finished in double figures.
FINEST IN FEBRUARY: GW is playing its best basketball of the year in the final month of the regular season, boasting a 5-1 record in February. In two seasons under head coach Jennifer Rizzotti, GW is 12-1 in games played in February.
HELP YOU OUT: GW assisted on 16 of its 23 field goals on Saturday against the Billikens, with junior Kelsi Mahoney finishing with a career-high six helpers. Bautista also hit her season average with four dimes.
LIMIT THE GIVEAWAYS: GW tied its season low with just five turnovers on Saturday, the seventh time this season, and fourth time in the last five games, that the Colonials have had less than 10 giveaways. GW ranks fourth overall in the NCAA with an average of just 11.3 turnovers per contest and fifth overall in fewest turnovers (294).
SERIES HISTORY: Saint Joseph's is the only Atlantic 10 team that GW does not have an all-time winning record against. The Hawks lead the all-time series, 30-29, but GW holds the edge in games played on the road (14-12). The Colonials have also won the last three meetings, including last season's 53-44 win at the Smith Center.









Saint Joseph's carries a four-game win streak in Tuesday's game with recent wins over Rhode Island, Duquesne, Davidson and La Salle ... All five starters average double figures with Chelsea Woods leading the way at 14.6 ppg. Sarah Veilleux is right behind at 14.0 ppg, followed by Alyssa Monaghan (10.8 ppg), Amanda Fioravanti (10.4 ppg) and Adashia Franklyn (10.0 ppg) ... The Hawks average 66.9 points per game on .432 shooting from the field. ... Although Alyssa Monghan leads the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.24), as a team the Hawks sit fifth in the conference in the category (1.04).
