GW goalkeeper honored by CoSIDA for academic excellence
WASHINGTON - Thor Arne Höfs of George Washington men's soccer has been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 2 First Team, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.
The senior goalkeeper advances to the national ballot for Academic All-American consideration. It's the third time in four years that the program has been represented on the Academic All-District squad.
A Mathematics and Finance major, Höfs has shined in the classroom, in addition to being a stalwart in net, over his four years in Buff and Blue.
Earlier Thursday, Höfs, who holds a 3.67 GPA, was named to the A-10 All-Academic Team for the third time, becoming the first Colonial in more than two decades to hold that distinction and just the third in program history.
The native of Germany has been recognized with the university's academic achievement award and as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar, in addition to regularly appearing on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and GW Athletics Academic Dean's List. He's scheduled to graduate in December.
Höfs has demonstrated the same excellence between the pipes, securing his place among the top netminders in program history. He recently closed his collegiate career as the program's all-time leader with 22 shutouts and ranked fourth with 264 saves. He compiled a .788 save percentage and 1.19 goals against average over 58 career starts.
This fall, Höfs posted five clean sheets and ranked second in the A-10 with 74 stops and fourth in the conference with a .771 save percentage.
Following another round of voting considering representatives from all eight districts, CoSIDA plans to announced its Academic All-America honorees early next month.
