2019 EAGL Preseason Poll
BALTIMORE – The George Washington gymnastics team, coming off its fourth consecutive NCAA Regionals appearance, was picked third in the 2018 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Preseason Poll, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Reining 2018 EAGL Champion NC State was picked to finish first in the conference with two first place votes and 32 points, New Hampshire clocked in at No. 2 with 28 points and two first place votes, and the Colonials garnered one first place vote and 25 points to round out the top three.
GW is coming off of its 14th NCAA Regionals appearance in program history after boasting high national ranks on three events at the conclusion of the 2018 season, as it ranked 11th on vault (49.200 RQS), 11th on balance beam (49.235 RQS), and 15th on floor exercise (49.295 RQS). The team also matched its highest score in program history with a 196.875 on Senior Day, and surpassed the 195.000 threshold in 12 of its 13 meets last season.
The Colonials return a strong core of 13 letterwinners and are highlighted by 2018 All-EAGL First-Team selection in the all-around, Alex Zois, and Cydney Crasa, a 2018 Second Team All-Conference pick. Fifth-year Brooke Bray and senior co-captain Julia McLaughlin will also play a large role in 2019 along with sophomores Hannah Cohen, Rachel Kaplan, Katya Karpova, and Anna Warhol.
GW also welcomes a quintet of first years to the squad, who will have an immediate impact as the Colonials face nine postseason teams from last year, including the 2018 NCAA Gymnastics National Championship runner-up Oklahoma, as part of their 2019 competition schedule.
GW is slated to open its 2019 campaign by hosting EAGL foe North Carolina, Cornell, and Ball State for the 12th Annual Lindsey Ferris Invitational on January 13 at 1 pm.
