Pair honored for performance at Queens University Fall Frenzy
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Moritz Fath and Andrea Moussier of GW swimming and diving were honored by the Atlantic 10 on Tuesday for their performances at the Queens University Fall Frenzy in North Carolina last weekend.
Fath was named Men's Co-Performer of the Week, while Moussier earned Women's Rookie of the Week honors for the third time. The Colonials have earned at least two weekly awards from the conference after each weekend of competition this fall.
A two-time A-10 All-Conference First Team performer, Fath picked up a pair of individual wins to help the GW men take second at the three-day meet. The junior from Germany took the 500-yard freestyle (4:27.54) and 200-yard freestyle (1:38.23).
He also finished fourth in both the 1,650-yard freestyle (15:45.30) and 400-yard individual medley (4:01.11), in addition to contributing to runner-up finishes in both the 800-yard freestyle relay (6:42.03) and 400-yard freestyle relay (2:59.01).
This is the first A-10 Performer of the Week award for Fath, who was twice named the conference's Rookie of the Week during the 2016-2017 season.
Moussier was honored for the second straight week after continuing her excellent debut campaign. The first-year from Mexico helped the GW women take second with a runner-up showing in her collegiate debut in the 1,650 free. She touched in 16:47.23, a time which ranks fourth on the program's all-time list.
In addition, Moussier qualified for A finals in the 400 IM (third, 4:24.69) and 500 free (seventh, 5:02.39). She was also 10th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.86) and swam a leg on GW's second-place 800 free relay team (7:23.43).
After a break this weekend, the GW women have one more meet left before winter break. The Colonials are set to host A-10 foe Richmond for a two-day meet Nov. 30-Dec. 1 at Smith Center Pool.
