Men’s Basketball Downed by South Carolina

UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- In its third straight game against an autonomy conference foe, GW men's basketball suffered a similar fate against the SEC's South Carolina, after falling at the hands of Virginia (ACC) and Michigan (Big Ten) in its last two contests.
This one was never close as the Gamecocks led wire-to-wire in a lopsided win. GW was able to outscore South Carolina in the second half, as it did at #5 Virginia, though it was too little too late once again after managing only an 18-point first half.
For the game, Terry Nolan Jr. paced GW in the scoring column with 13 points, including a 3-of-8 effort from 3pt. range, while DJ Williams nearly double-doubled with 12 points, a season-high nine rebounds, and team-high tying three assists (along with first year Shandon Brown). First year Marcus Littles logged a season-high 11 minutes for GW as he plays his way into game shape after missing time due to injury in the preseason. The big man from Philly registered a career high five points while dishing his first career assist.
All 12 Colonials who saw action found the scoring column as GW connected on a season-high 18 free throw attempts, making more than the Gamecocks attempted (16). South Carolina didn't need the freebies though as it saw plenty of success from deep. As a team, USC shot 13-of-25 from three-point range. Chris Silva had his way on Sunday with a game-high 20-point, 10-rebound double-double, while knocking down both of his three-point tries in his team's 90-55 win.
Finally the schedule relents for GW as the Colonials will now play five of their next six games at home, starting with a 4 p.m. tip on Saturday, Nov. 24, against a Manhattan squad that is 2-3 on the year.
Home dates against Vermont (Wed., 11/28), Towson (Wed., 12/5), Valparaiso (Sat., 12/8) and Howard (Fri., 12/14) present well on the GW slate, with a lone trip to Princeton (Sat., 12/1) on the road docket for the Buff and Blue in the next month.
