Colonials honored for performance at TYR Fall Classic
George Washington's Emils Pone and Andrea Moussier were recognized by the Atlantic 10 on Tuesday for their performances at last weekend's TYR Fall Classic at Florida International.
Pone was named Swimming and Diving Men's Performer of the Week, while Moussier picked up Women's Rookie of the Week honors.
Pone helped the GW men to a third-place finish in their first traditional meet of the season, piling up 56 points individually. The junior from Latvia finished third in both the 400-yard individual medley (4:06.10) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:54.08) and added a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.34).
Pone also won the B final in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.32 seconds. He had a hand in the Colonials' relay success as well, contributing to a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay and a third-place effort in the 400-yard medley relay.
It was the first A-10 weekly honor for Pone, who has earned All-Conference First Team honors each of the past two seasons.
Moussier turned in a pair of strong swims to aid the GW women's fourth-place finish. The first-year from Mexico took fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.77) and also placed second in the B final of the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.53).
It was her second meet in Buff and Blue after competing in the 5K at the season-opening CSCAA Open Water National Championship last month.
