Three-year manager joins squad for senior season
WASHINGTON - GW head coach Jennifer Rizzotti announced on Monday the addition of senior Anna Savino to the 2018-19 roster as a walk-on. Savino has been a manager for the Colonials for the last three years.
"Anna has always been a part of our team, but I am really excited to officially add her to our roster," Rizzotti said. "As a three-year manager, no one has been more positive, reliable and committed to our success than Anna. I am happy to help her realize her dreams to be a Division I basketball player. There is not a more deserving candidate and I know for certain she will add to our culture of success and winning the right way."
Savino, who has played club basketball at GW, hails from Bronx, N.Y. where she was a standout performer in high school for The Ursuline School. During her high school career, she was named to the all-league team four times, the all-section team three times and earned team MVP award in three seasons. She capped off her high school campaign as team captain in 2014-15, a year in which she garnered all-state accolades.
The defending Atlantic 10 champions opened practice on Sunday with a 13-member roster for the 2018-19 campaign. The season opener is exactly one month away on November 8 at James Madison. GW's home opener is set for November 11 against Princeton.
