New facility to be christened with private event on Saturday
WASHINGTON - The new baseball facility at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park will be dedicated on Saturday with the unveiling of the Fassnacht Clubhouse, named in honor of the lead donors to the project, Dave and Tam Fassnacht, P '20.
Dave and Tam, parents of current GW student-athlete and baseball team member, Nate Fassnacht (Class of 2020), designated their generous gift toward construction of the facility and the continued ascension of the GW baseball program.
"We are blessed to be part of the GW family and are excited to help bring this new clubhouse and training facility to fruition," Dave and Tam Fassnacht said. "Coach Ritchie has done an impressive job building GW baseball into a very competitive program within the A-10, and we expect that with daily access to these new dedicated baseball training facilities, he will be able to take this program to the next level.
"We would like to give a special thank you to Ave Tucker for his commitment to GW baseball and his invaluable contributions toward getting this project across the finish line."
The $3.5 million project received philanthropic support from a number of donors. It encompasses a one-story 6,200 square foot edifice that will serve as the team's permanent clubhouse and training facility. It also features new coaches' offices, indoor training area with batting cages, and a player's lounge. Additionally, the team's existing batting cages have been enclosed into a conjoining 3,240 square foot structure.
"At GW, we talk about Athletics being a highly visible display of discipline and excellence," said Director of Athletics and Recreation Tanya Vogel. "It does not get more excellent anywhere else in the A-10 than this ballpark, clubhouse, and training facility.
"Thank you to the Fassnacht family, Ave Tucker and all who are involved in this project. The respect we all must have for the people who brought this to life is enormous. Their philanthropy directly affects the lives of current and future student-athletes and we are forever grateful."
Tucker Field at Barcroft Park was dedicated on Oct. 18, 2014 in honor of Ave Tucker (GWSB B.B.A '77, member of the GW Board of Trustees and former GW baseball student-athlete), who also has significantly contributed towards the new clubhouse facility. Barcroft Park has served as the home of GW baseball since the team relocated off the Ellipse in 1993.
Following GW's signing of the original agreement with Arlington County in 2011, Barcroft Park underwent a multi-million dollar renovation in 2012 to install a new press box, concession area, dugouts, bullpens and stadium seating, with the accompanying clubhouse completing the facility and placing it among the nation's best. As part of the new agreement to permit new construction, the partnership between GW and Arlington County was extended by 10 years to 2041.
GW baseball's regular season begins in February 2019 with the schedule set to be announced at a later date.
