Colonials honored for swims at Penn State and Pittsburgh
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington's Andrew Cho and Dylan Arzoni picked up Atlantic 10 men's swimming & diving weekly honors for their performance in dual meets at Penn State and Pittsburgh.
Cho was named Performer of the Week, while Arzoni claimed the Rookie of the Week award.
Cho paced GW against the Power Five foes, earning a pair of individual event wins. The junior from California posted a win in the 200-yard backstroke Friday against Penn State (1:50.02) before taking the 100-yard backstroke the next day at Pitt (49.98).
Against the Nittany Lions, Cho also finished fourth in the 100 back (50.70) and swam legs on GW's top 400-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays. He was runner-up in the 200 back (1:50.15) in Saturday's meet against the Panthers and also helped the Colonials to their top finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays.
It was the first A-10 weekly honor for Cho, who scored in both backstroke events at last year's conference championship to help GW claim a repeat title.
Arzoni showcased his versatility against the top competition, swimming in five different individual events and three relays over the two days.
The first-year from Manchester, England, led the Buff and Blue in all three of his individual events against Penn State. He finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (46.04), third in the 100-yard butterfly (51.25) and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.76), and also swam a leg in GW's top 400 free relay performance.
At Pitt, Arzoni took fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:47.13) and sixth in the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.64) and also competed in the 200 free and 200 medley relays.
This is the second consecutive week to start the season GW has had a pair of swimmers honored by the A-10. Emils Pone (Performer of the Week) and Andrea Moussier (Rookie of the Week) claimed awards after the TYR Fall Classic at Florida International.
