No. 21 Gymnastics Finishes Third in Season Opener

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- In front of a sold out crowd, the George Washington gymnastics team totaled a 193.775 to open the 2018 season with a third place finish at University of Kentucky's Excite Night at Rupp Arena on Friday evening.
No. 10 Kentucky won the meet with a 196.075, while Ball State placed second with 194.475. The Colonials finished the night ahead of Southeast Missouri (189.675).
Senior Cami Drouin-Allaire took the all-around title by scoring a 39.10. Drouin-Allaire came in tied-for-third along with fellow senior captain Jillian Winstanley on vault (9.825) and floor (9.850). The Shoreham, New York native, rounded out her evening with a 9.725 on bars and 9.70 on beam.
ROTATION ONE
The Colonials began the meet on bars, totaling a team score of 48.650. In her career debut, freshman Rachel Kaplan came out strong, leading the way along with senior Liz Pfeiler with scores of 9.75, while Drouin-Allaire and Winstanley each posted a 9.725.
ROTATION TWO
On beam, the Colonials tallied up a team score of 47.300, with Pfeiler and Alex Zois pacing the Buff and Blue with scores of 9.75. Drouin-Allaire followed closely behind with a score of 9.70.
ROTATION THREE
GW moved to floor, where the Colonials had their best event of the night, posting a solid team score of 49.075. Winstanley, Drouin-Allaire, and Madeline Seibold each led the way for GW, earning scores of 9.85 to tie for third in the event. Kaplan finished with a 9.775, while Zois scored a 9.750.
ROTATION FOUR
The Colonials' final rotation came on vault, where the duo of Drouin-Allaire and Winstanley came up on top for GW with scores of 9.825 to take third place. Pfeiler pitched in a 9.7255 to help the Colonials scoring, with Zois adding a 9.70 and Julia McLaughlin finishing with a 9.675 to give GW a 48.750 in its final event of the evening.
LOOK AHEAD
GW will open the home portion of its schedule on Sunday, January 14 at 1 p.m. when it hosts Cornell, Ball State, and Pennsylvania at the Charles E. Smith Center for the 11th Annual Lindsey Ferris Invitational.
