TIPPING OFF: The George Washington women's basketball team will open a small two-game road swing on Wednesday evening when it visits Davidson. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Belk Arena.
LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials erased a 12-point deficit over the final five minutes of the fourth quarter to tie the game against Duquesne on Saturday at the Smith Center, but could not complete the comeback as the Dukes hit a free throw with three seconds remaining to escape with a narrow 54-53 victory.
BRI ON A ROLL: Senior Brianna Cummings continues to shoulder the majority of the scoring load for the Colonials while averaging a career-best 14.1 points per game this season. She has been especially efficient over the past three games, connecting on 58 percent (20-of-34) of her field-goal attempts while averaging 20 points per game.
She has been GW's leading scorer eight times this season, including a game-high 18 points against Duquesne on Saturday.
NOT ONLY SCORING: Cummings is also impacting the game in other areas. She is approaching 500 career rebounds thanks to a career-best average of 6.1 per game this season. She also ranks fifth in the A-10 with 2.1 steals per game and has at least three swipes in seven outings this season.
BALL PROTECTION: The Colonials tied their season low with just six turnovers against Duquesne on Saturday. It marked the fifth time this season GW has committed 10 turnovers or less.
GW continues to lead the Atlantic 10 and ranks 15th overall in the NCAA with an average of 12.3 giveaways per game. Additionally, GW ranks sixth overall in the nation in the fewest total amount of turnovers (196).
MEI LEADS THE WAY: An earnest portion of GW's ball protection can be attributed to junior point guard Mei-Lyn Bautista. She leads the A-10 and ranks 11th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.05) and has three games this season with zero turnovers, including Saturday's five assist, zero giveaway performance. She got it done on the offensive end as well, connecting on 7-of-12 field goals for a career-high 16 points.
SERIES HISTORY: GW has won all three all-time meetings against Davidson, including last year's 76-62 win at the Smith Center. The Colonials won the only meeting at Belk Arena by a score of 79-60 on January 27, 2016.
