Men's Swimming & Diving Sweeps Local Foes

Gustav Hokfelt (100-yard back) and Tommi Wolst (100-yard butterfly) broke individual marks and teamed with Emils Pone and Patrick Lersch to drop the pool's 200-yard medley relay record.
Those efforts helped the Colonials beat the host Eagles, 192-47, and edge the Hoyas, 164-78, in a local tri-meet. They improved to 5-0 in dual meets this season.
HIGHLIGHTS
- GW set its first record in the meet's opening event. Hokfelt (back), Wolst (breast), Pone (butterfly) and Lersch (free) finished the relay in 1:33.37 to beat second-place Georgetown by more than a second.
- Wolst was a double winner. The junior from Germany set his record in the 100 fly (50.14) and also took the 100-yard breaststroke (57.75).
- Hokfelt won the 100 back in a pool record time of 50.45 seconds, edging his teammate Pone. The senior from Sweden also swam on both of GW's winning relays.
- Moritz Fath claimed the two longest races of the day. The sophomore from Germany started with a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:00.16) and later took the 500-yard freestyle (4:39.72) ahead of teammate Andrew Cho.
- Austin Pyrch was a winner in his GW swimming debut in the 50-yard freestyle (20.98). The water polo goalie who recently joined the swimming squad also took third in the 100-yard freestyle and swam a leg on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay.
- GW went 1-2-3 in both diving events, highlighted by a pair of wins from Jake Ortiz. The junior scored 319.00 to take the 1-meter board and 307.80 to win the 3-meter competition. He was followed by Peter Nachtwey and Nick Tomczyk on both boards.
- Alex Auster also picked up an individual win for the Colonials, finishing the 100-yard freestyle in 46.44 seconds.
UP NEXT: GW is back at Charles E. Smith Center Pool next Saturday, Jan. 20, for a Senior Day matchup against Old Dominion. The Colonials will honor their 10 seniors -- six men and four women -- before the meet in a ceremony set to begin at 10:45 a.m.
