LAST TIME OUT: GW (2-4-1) fell at No. 7 North Carolina, 4-1, on Tuesday. Koby Osei-Wusu netted his first career goal for the Colonials, but it wasn't enough to keep up with the ACC-favorite Tar Heels. In case you missed Osei-Wusu's amazing strike that was featured by ESPN and elsewhere nationally, check it out here.
IN FOCUS: Brady O'Connor scored the game-winning goal in both of GW's victories. The Baltimore native is one of only four players in the Atlantic 10 â€" and the lone freshman â€" with multiple game-winning goals. St. Bonaventure's Janos Loebe leads the conference with three.
FUN FACT: With 10 goals in nine games, Mamadou Guirassy has already set NJIT's Division I single-season record. The high-scoring senior had a share of the previous mark after netting seven goals last season. The Highlanders began competing in the NCAA's top division in 2004.
SCOUTING NJIT: The Highlanders (6-1-2) ranked third in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Southeast Region poll. They started Atlantic Sun play Wednesday with a 2-1 win over USC-Upstate.
NJIT has found success with defense, allowing just six goals in nine games. Goalkeeper Victor Pujades has five shutouts, 40 saves and a 0.65 goals against average.
These teams played to a 1-1 draw last season at GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus. Oliver Curry scored the Colonials' goal.
COMING UP: GW plays its next two on the road. The Colonials finish their nonconference slate next Tuesday at Stony Brook before starting their Atlantic 10 slate at Rhode Island on Sept. 30.
