Softball Drops Series Opener at Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. - The George Washington softball squad fell at defending Atlantic 10 champion Fordham on Saturday afternoon to begin a three-game series. Saturday's originally scheduled second game has been postponed due to rain and will be played on Sunday as part of a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. at Bahoshy Field.
The Colonials (23-20, 6-9 A-10) scored in the first two innings, but the Rams (35-12, 11-4 A-10) went on to score in all but one frame to come away with the 8-3 win.
GW struck first when senior Megan Linn walked to begin the game and advanced to second on a bunt single from rookie Jessica Linquist. Freshman Priscilla Martinez then doubled down the left field line to drive in two to put the Colonials ahead.
Fordham responded with a run in the bottom of the inning, but a RBI double from Linn in the second regained a two-run lead for GW at 3-1.
The Rams scored one in the third then two more in the fourth to take their first lead of the game at 4-3.
Fordham pulled away in the fifth, scoring three with the help of three walks and three hits to move ahead, 7-3.
The hosts brought one more across in the sixth, and the Colonials were unable to rally as Fordham took game one, 8-3.
GW looks to take the series on Sunday in doubleheader play beginning at 10 a.m.
