WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball squad will renew the Revolutionary Rivalry on Wednesday when George Mason visits the GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus for a doubleheader.
The Colonials (21-19, 4-8 A-10) wrap a seven-game homestand on Wednesday after dropping two-of-three games to visiting Saint Louis over the weekend.
Jenna Cone has posted a historic rookie season, currently leading the Atlantic 10 and ranking second in the nation with a school-record 17 home runs. Cone leads the team with a .378 average and is just three RBIs shy of snapping GW's single-season record.
The Colonials' team batting average of .310 leads the league and ranks 33rd in the country. GW's pitchers have held opposing hitters to a .265 average.
Junior Sarah Costlow (8-7, 2.54 ERA) continues to lead the staff in the circle this season. Freshman Faith Weber has taken on additional duties in conference play, owning a 3-3 record against A-10 foes while tossing 31.0 innings, holding conference hitters to a team-best .246 average.
George Mason (16-24, 8-4 A-10) takes a six-game win streak into Wednesday after sweeping Rhode Island in a three-game set over the weekend.
As a team, the Patriots are batting .235 on the year with an ERA of 2.99. Marina Vitalich (10-8, 1.55 ERA) ranks second in the conference with 130 strikeouts in 131 innings of work.
One point in the year-long Revolutionary Rivalry is up for grabs. A year ago, GW and Mason split a doubleheader in Fairfax, Virginia.
