PHILADELPHIA - The George Washington women's tennis team completed a perfect weekend of play with a 6-1 defeat of Atlantic 10 foe Saint Joseph's on the road on Sunday.
The Colonials (10-9) dominated in doubles play before taking five singles matches - all in straight sets - for the squad's second win of the weekend.
The top doubles duo of senior Taylor Nederlander and junior Marie-Louise Decamps started the day with a quick victory before sophomore Maria Siopacha and freshman Melis Bayraktaroglu clinched the early point at No. 2. The Colonials went on to sweep the first portion of the day as senior Allison Hansen and sophomore Victoria Kogan claimed victory in third-flight play.
In singles action, Kogan blanked her sixth-flight opponent in straight sets to increase GW's lead. Siopacha quickly followed with a two-set win of her own at the top spot to put the Colonials ahead 3-0.
Bayraktaroglu clinched the victory in the No. 2 spot, downing her foe in straight sets. Nederlander and Decamps went on to win their Nos. 4 and 3 battles, respectively.
Saint Joseph's avoided the shutout with a win at No. 5 to close the day, giving GW a 6-1 win.
The Colonials wrap the regular season on Saturday with a Senior Day match at the GW Tennis Center against George Mason.
