WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's tennis team took a Revolutionary Rivalry victory over George Mason on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center.
The Colonials (11-9) defeated Mason, 6-1, to close the regular season on a three-match win streak. GW's 11 victories marks the most since the 2013 team totaled 11 wins.
GW began the day with strong doubles play as the top duo of sophomore Maria Siopacha and freshman Melis Bayrakaroglu took a swift win. The No. 2 pair of senior Taylor Nederlander and junior Marie-Louise Decamps clinched the early point before senior Allison Hansen and sophomore Victoria Kogan completed a doubles sweep at No. 3.
The Colonials carried the momentum into singles action as Bayraktaroglu took a quick straight-set win at No. 2. Siopacha followed suit with a two-set triumph of her own at the top spot before Decamps clinched the victory at No. 3, also in straight sets.
Nederlander claimed a Senior Day victory at No. 4 in two sets and junior Kamilla Beisenova took GW's final straight-set win at No. 5.
Mason avoided the sweep with a three-set win at No. 6 to close the day.
The Colonials now await seeding in preparation for the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship beginning on Wednesday in Orlando, Florida.
