WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball squad hosts Delaware State on Tuesday for doubleheader action at the GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
Jenna Cone enters the week as the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week while senior Megan Linn garnered Player of the Week honors after stellar weeks at the plate.
Cone is GW's single-season home run record holder with 16 round-trippers so far this season - ranking second in the nation. With 50 RBI on the year - also good for second in the nation - Cone is just four away from snapping the single-season program record of 53. Cone leads the squad with a .398 average on the season.
Linn (.395) is having a strong offensive season as well, recently becoming GW's all-time career hits leader. Linn leads the team with 19 stolen bases - swiping safely in all but one attempt - and owns a squad-high .463 on-base percentage as the Colonials' savvy leadoff hitter.
Freshman Faith Weber (3-4, 3.85 ERA) had a breakout weekend in the circle, tossing a pair of complete game victories at La Salle while adding her first career save earlier in the week at Coppin State. Junior Sarah Costlow (7-6, 2.27 ERA) leads GW's pitching staff on the season.
Delaware State (11-20) most recently downed Hampton in extra innings on Sunday, but lost the three-game weekend series after being swept in doubleheader action on Saturday.
As a team, the Hornets are batting .244 with a staff ERA of 5.41.
The Colonials lead the all-time series with Delaware State, 3-0, with all three wins coming in 2015.
