LYNCHBURG, Va. - The George Washington women's tennis team took a 4-3 victory over ITA Atlantic Region foe Liberty on Saturday at the Flames' Crosswhite Athletic Club.
The Colonials (7-4) recovered after dropping the doubles point to take four singles matches and come away with the win.
Senior Taylor Nederlander was the first to finish in solo play, taking a swift straight-set victory at No. 5 to even the score at 1-1. Liberty then regained the edge by taking the No. 4 match, but freshman Melis Bayraktaroglu grabbed her first career triumph at the No. 2 position in straight-sets to again knot the match.
GW carried the momentum with a three-set win by sophomore Maria Siopacha at the top spot in comeback fashion. Junior Marie-Louise Decamps then overcame a first-set deficit to clinch the match for the Colonials at No. 3.
Liberty took the final point at No. 6, but the Buff and Blue grabbed the 4-3 road victory.
The Colonials continue a stretch of four consecutive road contests on March 14 at Florida Atlantic.
