INDIANAPOLIS - George Washington men's swimming and diving senior Andrea Bolognesi earned All-America status for the second-consecutive season after winning the B Final of the 100-yard breaststroke at the 2017 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday evening.
"We're very proud of Andrea's efforts today and becoming an All-American again," said second-year head coach James Winchester. "The competition here is truly world-class, and Andrea stacks up with the best of them."
Bolognesi touched the wall in 52.07 to win the Consolation Final and take ninth overall at the pinnacle of NCAA competition at IU Natatorium.
In preliminary action, Bolognesi finished second in his heat and ninth overall with a time of 52.11 to earn a spot in the B Final.
"Andrea had a great finals swim, and was so close to going 51," said Winchester. "Tomorrow will be his last day as a collegiate swimmer, so it will be a day full of emotions. He has truly helped elevate our program in so many ways, and we look forward to finishing his career strong tomorrow."
Bolognesi became the program's first All-American a year ago in the same event, finishing eighth (52.06) to earn First Team distinction.
The Cuveglio, Italy, native will close his career on Saturday with the 200 breast competition. Preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. with finals starting at 6 p.m.
