Lacrosse Falls at Home to Delaware, 13-2

WASHINGTON â€" The George Washington lacrosse team was defeated by Delaware, 13-2, on Saturday afternoon at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
Junior Jocelyn Donohue netted the only two goals for the Colonials, with assists from senior Shea Cassidy and junior Brooke Sands.
The Blue Hens (5-3) got on the board first with two early goals from Mia DeRuggiero and Sydney Rausa. Junior keeper Adele Wise made a big save at the 23:39 mark, but Delaware continued to apply offensive pressure to go on a 7-0 run to end the first half.
The Colonials rebounded with a goal from Donohue just 19 seconds into the second to kick start the GW offense. Four minutes later, Donohue found the back of the net again, converting a quick pass from Cassidy and firing it past Delaware keeper Taylor Carpentier. The Blue Hens responded with a 6-0 run of their own to close out the game with a 13-2 decision.
Christine Long led Delaware's offense with three goals and one assist, while Sydney Rausa and Caroline Farley had two goals apiece.
In the cage, Wise recorded eight saves in 44:56 while Erin Long recorded two saves in 15:04.
GW will open A-10 conference play on Friday, March 31 when it hosts Saint Bonaventure at 4 p.m. at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
