Gymnastics Closes Regular Season with Senior Day Win

WASHINGTON - The George Washington gymnastics team swept the all-around podium for the third consecutive meet as the Colonials topped visiting NC State, Stanford and Yale to win its regular season finale on Senior Day on Sunday at the Charles E. Smith Center.
GW concludes the regular-season with a 24-4 overall record after posting its highest home score of the year on Sunday. The Colonials scored 196.50 to top East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) rival NC State (194.825), Yale (194.575) and Stanford (193.275).
Sunday's performance mathematically locks the Colonials into an appearance at the upcoming NCAA Regionals. It marks the Colonials third consecutive appearance at regionals and the 13th all-time appearance. The Colonials can still improve their seeding at next weekend's EAGL Championship.
GW's total was comprised of team scores of 49.075 on vault, 49.15 on uneven bars (season-high), 49.075 on balance beam and 49.20 on floor exercise.
In the final home meet of their decorated careers, both Alex DeMoura and Chelsea Raineri performed admirably, backed by classmates Kaitlin Cowles and Kaila Solomon.
DeMoura placed third in the all-around with a 39.175, including a season-high mark of 9.85 on uneven bars (T-4th), along with scores of 9.80 on vault (T-5th), 9.775 on balance beam (T-9th) and 9.775 on floor exercise (T-9th).
Raineri earned a pair of podium appearances on both vault (9.85, T-2nd) and floor exercise (9.875, 2nd) while scoring 9.825 on uneven bars (T-4th).
Junior Cami Drouin-Allaire finished in first place in the all-around by scoring 39.375. She picked up a pair of outright event titles on both vault (9.875) and floor (9.90) while adding scores of 9.80 on both bars (T-10th) and beam (T-8th).
Winstanley placed second in the all-around (39.325) to complete GW's sweep of the podium. Her best event of the day was bars on which she shared team high-score honors with junior Liz Pfeiler with a 9.85 (T-2nd). She also scored 9.825 on vault (4th), 9.825 on beam (T-5th) and 9.825 on floor (T-4th).
Junior Sara Mermelstein earned a podium appearance on balance beam where she tied for third place with a 9.85. Junior Alex Zois sat just off the podium by tying for fifth place with a 9.825.
On floor exercise, junior Madeline Seibold registered a 9.825 on tie for fourth place with Winstanley.
The Colonials next compete at next weekend's EAGL Championship on Saturday, March 18 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
