LEADING OFF: The No. 16 George Washington gymnastics team continues a stretch of three consecutive road meets when it visits East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) rival NC State for a tri-meet with the Wolfpack and Kent State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum.
LAST TIME OUT: GW went toe-to-toe with 2016 NCAA Championship Runner Up LSU on the road and posted its third consecutive 196.00 or better in a second-place finish on Sunday afternoon against No. 2 LSU and Iowa.
SHIFT TO RQS: This week's NCAA RoadToNationals.com rankings are the first of the season that take into account each team's regional-qualifying score (RQS). The RQS is based on a team's and all-around competitor's six best regular-season-meet scores, of which three must be away. The high score is eliminated with the remaining five scores averaged.
NATIONAL RANKS CHECK: GW sits among the top-20 teams in the nation in all events plus overall team score. In addition to being 16th in the nation with a team RQS of 195.70, the Colonials boast event ranks of 20th on vault (48.935 RQS), 17th on uneven bars (48.925), 12th on balance beam (49.125 RQS) and 17th on floor exercise (49.030 RQS).
VALUABLE VAULTERS: Junior Cami-Drouin Allaire and senior Chelsea Raineri each scored a 9.90 on vault over the weekend to add to their conference-best vault rankings. Drouin-Allaire sits first in the EAGL with a 9.870 RQS in addition to an average routine of 9.85. Raineri ranks second overall with a 9.840 RQS and 9.797 average.
BALANCED BEAM: Three GW gymnasts rank in the top five of the latest EAGL beam rankings. Junior Liz Pfeiler sits third overall with a 9.840 RQS while juniors Jillian Winstanley and Sara Mermelstein are tied for fourth at 9.830.
MEMORABLE MOMENT: The Smith Center was the place to be last Friday night as Raineri was surprised by her older brother, Collin, who returned from overseas duty after serving in Kuwait as part of the Army Reserves.
In case you missed it, here is video of the special and emotional reunion.
