TEEING OFF: The GW golf team opens the spring season on Monday, Feb. 20 at the two-day Atlantic 10 Match Play Championships at Weston Hills Country Club in Weston, Fla.
FORMAT: Individuals for each team play six matches, earning one point for victory in each match and one-half of a point for a tie. The team with the most points will advance to the championship side of the match play.
FIRST ROUND MATCHES: GW will take on George Mason in the opening round, while Dayton faces Saint Joseph's, VCU plays St. Bonaventure and Richmond faces Florida Atlantic, which was added to balance out the field. Matchups were determined based on the final Golfstat rankings from last fall.
GW LINEUP: Participating for the Colonials will be seniors Michael Heda and Lucas Farmer, redshirt junior Christian Cichan, juniors Jack Porcelli and Vince Palazzolo, sophomore Logan Lowe and freshman Yoo Jin Kim.
LAST YEAR AT MATCH PLAY: After dropping the opening match to Davidson, GW responded in impressive fashion by winning 11 of its final 12 matches to take the consolation final. Farmer finished the event with a perfect 3-0 record.

"Match play is such a fun format because it's the one chance we get to go one-on-one with our opponent. As a team we feel like we're pretty good in a match play format so we're ready to get after it."
Head coach Chuck Scheinost
"Match play is a great way to start the spring season. There's not as much pressure of having to play good every hole. You can make a mistake, which happens early on as you get back into the flow, but I think we're in a great position heading into the weekend. Last year we really used this tournament as a spring board for the rest of the season and I expect us to do the same this year."
